Battery Safety

About REV's batteries

At REV Bikes we are heavily focused on battery safety, and therefore only use and sell quality batteries and battery components. In this video we explain various things to be on the lookout for, to ensure that you are purchasing a safe, good quality battery.

Our batteries have a well constructed outer shell which firmly attaches to your bike with a purpose designed bracket that can be bolted to the bike frame, rather than being held by tape, cable ties or other inferior mounts such as seen in some DIY Frankenstein-style installs! Our batteries all have a keyway to lock the battery to the frame to deter theft and accidental battery detachment.

Integral to the outside of the case is a charge-level indicator, so you can determine at the push of a button the amount of charge remaining in the battery.

Internally we use quality brand-name cells such as LG, the grouping together of which has been well engineered to ensure maximum efficiency.

Charging and discharging is managed internally by a high quality Battery Management System (the circuit board 'heart' of the system) which has a decent heatsink attached to dissipate heat safely to protect the electronics. Among other functions, during charging of the battery, the BMS controls when the battery has had enough charging and halts the process, ensuring that the battery can not be overcharged. It also cuts out the battery if the operational voltage gets too low, thus protecting the battery from both over and under voltage. It also controls the balancing of each cell group.

Many inferior systems containing poor quality BMS boards have lead to overcharging and overheating of batteries, sometimes leading to fires. As an extra precaution, our quality batteries are protected on both the charger and output side by replaceable fuses and heavy duty wiring where appropriate.

REV Bikes quality batteries have been engineered and constructed to provide excellent service and longevity when treated well by the user. Visit our Battery Care Guide for tips on how to get the best out of your battery https://rev-bikes.com/pages/customer-user-guides
